Michael Doshi, who simply goes by Doshi, is based in Los Angeles and has been heavily involved in plastic pollution prevention since 2014. Including work with Heal the Bay, 5 Gyres Institute, Surfrider Foundation-Los Angeles Chapter, and Algalita Marine Research & Education. Doshi was a crew member on Algalita's 2017 South Pacific Gyre Expedition, bringing his fun spirit to the high seas.
He is Algalita's Leadership Programs Manager, mentoring youth to help bring their inspiring ideas and solutions to reality. He spearheads strategic partnership collaborations, engaging like-minded organizations working on innovative solutions to participate in educating youth through Algalita’s leadership platforms. Doshi travels the world conducting waste investigations to experience where our plastic ends up in the environment and how it impacts humans. His short film The End of the Road, highlighting waste exports to the island of Java, Indonesia, won the award for Best Environmental Story at the Patagonia Film Festival 2019. Doshi is featured in the full length documentary The Story of Plastic, which documents how plastic pollutes across its entire lifecycle from fossil fuel extraction to disposal. Doshi also acts as the Policy Coordinator for Algalita, working in coalitions to push forward plastic-smart policy on a local, state, and national level.
In addition to his work with Algalita, Doshi runs an Instagram account called @gnarlybeachcleaner, where his mission is to spread awareness of plastic pollution through fun and positivity! Over the past few years he has been a featured MC and educator at plastic pollution prevention youth summits including Ocean Heroes Bootcamp, POPS International Youth Summit, Kokua Hawaii Foundation - Plastic Free Hawaii Youth Summit, Youth Ocean Conservation Summit, and the Youth Innovation Forum on Plastic Pollution.
He strives to teach people to live in the present with undertones of longevity.
