Chris Field is Director of the Stanford Woods Institute for the Environment at Stanford University

Chris Field is Director of the Stanford Woods Institute for the Environment at Stanford University and Melvin and Joan Lane Professor for Interdisciplinary Environmental Studies.  His research focuses on climate change, especially solutions that improve lives now, decrease the amount of future warming and support vibrant economies. .Recent projects emphasize improving the integrity of natural climate solutions and decreasing risks from coastal flooding and wildfires. He also had leadership roles in IPCC reports on managing risks from extreme events and  climate change impacts, adaptation, and vulnerability and is a member of the US National Academy of Sciences.
