Anne Thornton - Director of Agriculture, Collin College

An agriculturalist for more than 30 years and an award-winning educator, Anne created and implemented the curriculum for the college’s Urban Sustainable Agriculture program. With a background in the computer industry, Thornton spent 25 years teaching secondary education courses in agriculture, science, math, and technology. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science, Beef Cattle Production from Texas A&M University).

Thornton has been farming on a small scale for more than 30 years, from a quarter acre up to 82 acres. She currently owns just under 20 acres and raises cows, pigs, and free-range chickens. She grows most vegetables in containers and raised beds, similar to what you would find in an urban setting. Her goal is to teach and promote sustainable agriculture and regenerative practices to improve how we feed the world.
