Sara Garcia, PhD, is a Project Scientist at the UC Davis Western Institute for Food Safety and Security where her work applies a “One Health for Food Systems” approach in food safety and food security related to animal and plant production. This approach aims to establish a broader concept of One Health that corporates the food system and acknowledges that food and agriculture are tied to public health, livelihoods, and social equity. She earned a B.S. in Genetics and a Ph.D. In Integrative Pathobiology at UC Davis and completed a Fulbright Postdoctoral Fellowship in Rwanda where she worked to improve dairy production, animal health, and food safety for smallholder farmers.
